Tata Motor's Multiple fuel options

Tata Motor's Brilliant Strategy - Multiple fuel options (hydrogen/Air/Electric/petrol/Diesel) to Tata Nano / Tata Indica / Tata Ace.

  • It's been widely reported today that Tata has backed an inventor to launch air-power car for Indian market. While the vehicle that will be fitted with this engine is not any of the Tata cars, a pattern seems to emerge looking at the announcements coming out of Tata Motors.
  • Nov 2007 - Electric version of Tata Indica for Europe.
  • Nov 2007 - Collaboration with ISRO for Hydrogen fuel based engines.
  • Jan 2008 - Tata Nano launched in India in Indian Auto Expo.
  • Jan 2008 - Contract with Chrysler to develop and market an electric version of the Tata Ace for sale in the US.
  • If you recollect the insistence by Mr Tata that multiple variants of Nano are planned. There was a talk that the tighter emission norms in europe won't be possible without addition of cost hence foreign markets won't be accessible. But, consider that with alternate fuels, suddenly, the emission norms are not a concern. As for the safety requirements, one may need a different varient to comply to Europe / US. Suddenly, the possibilities are limitless even in the western markets.
  • With the heightened sensitivity for global warming, and oil at ~100 US Dollers a barrel, everything seems to be in favour.
  • At the same time, he is bidding and most probably will get Jaguar and Land Rover also!
  • Master stroke by Mr Ratan Tata.
