Fengshui in the Office

Feng Shui is about creating harmony in your life by removing the clutter and negative energy from your environment. But offices in general and computers in particular are all about clutter and negative energy.

The first thing to do is clean out the clutter. Keep your office layout simple; ensure desks are kept clear and tidy, deal with all those sticky notes and ancient paperwork.

Placing plants around your office or workroom will both enhance the life force and improve relationships between workers. The plants must be well tended though; dead greenery is not the way to improve the flow of energy. Water should be present in the southeast of your office; a fish tank or, at least, a picture of an expanse of water.

Finding your KUA number can help you to align your office furniture correctly. According to Eight Mansions Feng Shui, everyone has four good and four bad directions. By identifying these directions, you can ensure that your office or workroom layout is beneficial to you personally and to your career success.

Try to avoid crossing lines (like wires running across the floor) as this produces conflicting energies.

Certain colours are said to enhance your business life. Purple is the colour of wealth, pink the colour of partnership and blue the colour of knowledge. Decorate your workspace accordingly.

Never sit with your back to the door or window. Always ensure that you can see the entrance by looking up from the computer. If you can't manage that by moving your office furniture, place a mirror nearby to give you a view of the doorway.

Never sit in a draft. If the A/C is overhead, move your desk slightly to get out of the way.

If you don't have a window in your office or workroom, hang a picture of a natural scene within easy sight.

Don't have your desk next to the door. If you can't move it, position something (plants, etc) to form a barrier. At the very least, keep the door closed.

Let the air flow through your office. If you can't open a window, place a small fan near your desk. If you put a plant next to the fan, the breeze will rustle the leaves and energize your room.

Place Feng Shui symbols around your office or workplace to encourage harmony and your career or business success.
